Beer-lovers abuzz after White House releases its home-brew recipes

9/2/2012

The Obamas brought many domestic firsts to the White House: a hypoallergenic dog, a vegetable garden, a beehive, a home beer-fermenting kit. Wait, what? We had no clue the Obamas were home-brewers, but apparently somebody did — more than 12,000 people petitioned the White House to release the recipes for Honey Ale and Honey Porter (the buzzed-about beers made with honey from the South Lawn’s beehive, of course). Per a blog post from Sam Kass, the White House’s assistant chef, the Honey Ale may have been the first alcoholic treat ever brewed on White House grounds. So if you’re a DIY type itching to cook up an Obama-approved summer beverage, you're in luck. [Source]
