White-water rafting leads to serious Olympic torch fail

7/7/2012

"In order to assure the sacred Olympic torch does not ever go out en route, let's brainstorm the safest means of travel possible. So how about a super bouncy white-water raft?" Could that have been the idea that led to today's mishap, in which the revered Olympic flame was unintentionally snuffed out after a wall of water cascaded into the boat during a stretch of rapids? The poor conflagration failed during a canoe slalom as British junior team canoeist Zachary Franklin tried his best to hold the torch up despite the rough water. It was the second mishap of the day for the torch relay, following a motorcycle crash hours earlier which stalled things for 20 minutes.
