State trooper says he was fired for using Ebonics in police reports

A former Pennsylvania state trooper says he was fired for using colloquial black English, better known as Ebonics, in his written reports. William C. Peake, who is black, has filed a federal lawsuit against the state police, alleging his race was a factor in his termination. Peake says he was twice awarded certificates in report-writing training and earned "satisfactory" reviews on his communication skills, but was told his reports were deficient and was ultimately fired because of a "lack of solid job knowledge and basic skills." When he graduated from the State Police Training Academy in 2009, Peake was one of only four black graduates and the only one deployed to western Pennsylvania, the lawsuit says. [Source]
