Crowd of druids (and a drunk) greets the winter solstice at Stonehenge

12/21/2012

The fact that the world didn't end at some point overnight must've given everyone an extra reason to celebrate today. More than 5,000 people — five times the size of last year's crowd — shivered at Stonehenge this morning, watching the sun rise to greet the winter solstice. The shortest day of the year was welcomed by druids, pagans and one unruly drunk guy, who was promptly arrested. "This is the only time when people are allowed into the circle of stones," BBC reporter Annie Weston said. "People are cheering and chanting and everybody was looking [toward] the sun for that special moment." In other words: Suck it, Mayans. [Source]
