Tammy Baldwin projected to become first openly gay US senator
11/7/2012Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin is breaking ground again. In 1998, Baldwin defeated Josephine Musser to become Wisconsin's first female member of Congress and the first openly gay nonincumbent elected to the House of Representatives. Now, with a victory tonight over Tommy Thompson, Baldwin will become the first openly gay senator. Baldwin is probably still basking in the glow of her victory right now, but you have to wonder what trail she might be blazing next. The position of first openly gay female president is still open.
