Woman says denying parking privileges violates her rights3/8/2012
A Canadian woman insists that being able to leave her car in front of her New Edinburgh, Ottawa, house should qualify as a human right. Pamela Howson is currently unable to legally park in front of her home because of a zoning regulation declaring the neighborhood a heritage preservation district. According to the Ottawa Citizen, Howson and her husband can park behind their house, but they claim the lane is too narrow to accommodate their car. Howson has taken the claim before the Ottawa Human Rights Tribunal, but city lawyers argue Howson never applied for a permit that would allow the family to park in front of the house, so she actually hasn't been denied anything or deprived of any human rights. The tribunal chairman said the case will be considered "in due course."
