Woman wins $17.9M after suing hospital for amputations
3/5/2012Tabitha Mullings' hospital nightmare culminated in the loss of her hands and feet and the sight in one eye. But the quadruple amputee has won a lawsuit against Brooklyn Hospital Center and the city of New York for $17.9 million. The New York Daily News reports that Mullings arrived at the emergency room in September 2008 in severe pain, but was sent home with painkillers. Her pain returned the following day, but the paramedics who answered her 911 call wouldn't take her back to the ER. Mullings' fiancé eventually took her back to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with the devastating sepsis infection that led to the amputations. Mullings filed the lawsuit while still in the hospital.
