Woman's literal penny pinching helps pay for college
6/26/2012Save your pennies, kids, especially if you want to go to college. These days a four-year degree costs enough to saddle students with years of debt, so every bit helps. A woman in Indiana knew this and has literally been saving pennies for 15 years in order to help her god-daughter get an education. Faith Hammock started collecting pennies wherever she found them back in 1997, and has since collected a whopping 500,000 for her god-daughter Kayla Gilbert. That adds up to an extra $5,000, which Gilbert, who'll be attending Indiana University on a scholarship, says will cover her room and board. Bet you'll think twice about skipping that penny on the sidewalk next time, won't you?
