World War II vet gets dog tags back more than 60 years later
6/26/2012Marine Corps veteran John Joseph Keker lost his dog tags way back in World War II while serving in the Pacific. But now the Chicago native's got them back, thanks to Shane Fender, a reservist for the Australian army who found a box of dog tags while stationed in the Solomon Islands last year. It was there where Keker had lost his tags while he was stationed at Guadalcanal and the Allied forces were battling the Japanese. The 88-year-old now lives in Arizona, and Fender tracked him down on the Internet, where he's been looking for the other 11 tag owners. "My goal is to get them all home where they belong," Fender said.
