Moms donate wombs to daughters so they can become moms (follow?)
9/18/2012Wrap your head around this one. Two women in Sweden have given their uteruses to their daughters — meaning that their grandchildren could develop in the same wombs as their daughters. The two recipients both lacked functioning uteruses: One woman was born without one, while the other had hers removed following cervical cancer. The twin surgeries, conducted over the weekend by a team of more than 10 surgeons, are the world's first mother-to-daughter uterus transplants. The patients are doing well, but their doctors say they won't call the surgeries "a complete success" until the daughters become mothers themselves. [Source]
