World's longest high-speed train line shoots into service
12/26/2012Just in time to zoom into the New Year, China began service Wednesday morning on the world's longest high-speed rail line. The railway is seen as a good option for travelers in a hurry, and it's also a boon for the Chinese economy and the environment. The sleek bullet trains will take passengers 1,428 miles from Beijing to Guangzhou – about the distance between New York and Key West, Florida – in only eight hours. By comparison, it would take you about 30 hours to get from New York to Miami (a shorter distance) on Amtrak. Views are probably less blurry on Amtrak; the new Chinese trains zip along the lengthy route at a speed of 186 mph. [Source]
