World's tallest tower teeters over Tokyo in grand opening
5/22/2012How do you say "That's one tall tower!" in Japanese? The Tokyo Skytree, a broadcast structure that stretches 2,080 feet above Tokyo and has been certified as the world's tallest tower by Guinness World Records, opened to visitors for the first time Tuesday, attracting tens of thousands of people hoping to be among the first to check out the views. At 2,716 feet 6 inches, Dubai's Burj Khalifa remains the world's tallest building, but that distinction apparently didn't detract from the excitement of Skytree visitors. The very first, Kazutaka Hasegawa, got in line on May 16, telling the Mainichi Daily News, "I feel a sense of satisfaction in being the first person to ascend the tower."
