Another dangerous creature gives Shark Week competition: Cow Week
8/14/2012As the ever-popular Shark Week thrashes around in a bloody frothing rage on our TV screens this week, a science writer has launched Cow Week in hopes of bringing some perspective. Cows, Maggie Koerth-Baker was shocked to find out, kill far more people every year in the U.S. than sharks, and yet one is known as a murderous, man-hungry enemy and the other a docile, grass munching friend. To bring the point home, she is providing a daily example of cow-related killing through August 18, not to make light of the deaths but to encourage thought on how we determine what’s risky.
