TGIT! Gambia switches to four-day workweek

2/1/2013

If you lived in the Gambia, your weekend might already have started. That follows a proclamation from the African nation's president, Yahya Jammeh, who announced that government employees will only have to work from Monday to Thursday. (Many of the Gambia's 1.8 million citizens are Muslims for whom Friday is already a day of prayer.) Jammeh says he hopes the move will encourage Gambians to devote more time to "prayers, social activities and agriculture." Before you start looking for a job there, be aware that government employees' weekday hours will be extended from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., so they'll work the same amount of time on fewer days. [Source]
