Russian activist wants to slam the door on Mormon missionaries
12/10/2012A young Russian politician is pushing to ban Mormon missionaries, calling the religion a "totalitarian cult." Leader of the Youth Guards, Yekaterina Steniakina, believes the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a front for the FBI and CIA, its missionaries sent to "fool and convert" Russians. There are around 21,000 Mormons in Russia, plus about 400 foreign missionaries who hand out the book of Mormon in the overwhelmingly Orthodox country. The idea of banning Mormons could take hold as anti-American sentiment grows in Russia. President Vladimir Putin has already indicated his disapproval of "totalitarian sects" and their perceived "hunt for people's property." [Source]
