Judge resigns, admits that his job is not one you can do in your sleep

It's a good rule of thumb not to sleep on the job … especially if you want to keep your job. Russian judge Yevgeny Makhno resigned after he was caught on video sleeping through a speech being made by a defense attorney during court proceedings in the eastern town of Blagoveshchensk. So what was the outcome of the trial? Makhno sentenced a businessman on trial to five years of hard labor in a penal colony. Needless to say, now that this footage has surfaced, the defendant will get a new trial, which is scheduled to start Feb. 14. Makhno will eventually be able to return to the bench, as long as he can pass his exams again. And the bailiff should make sure he has a cup of coffee nearby. [Source]
