Parents tie themselves in knots over schools' free yoga classes
10/23/2012Free yoga classes might be helping students in the Encinitas, Calif. school district to chill out, but the same cannot be said for some of their parents. There have been complaints that the twice-a-week yoga classes are brainwashing their darlings with "Hinduism, a religion system of beliefs and practices." An attorney for the concerned parents said legal action might be taken if the "unconstitutional" classes don't stop. District Superintendent Tim Baird said the Asthanga yoga classes have been stripped of any religious content, but some parents have already pulled their kids out of the lessons. Said Baird, "Yoga is a worldwide exercise regime utilized by people of many different faiths. Yoga is part of our mainstream culture." [Source]
