How posting steamy selfies online is 'empowering' young women
12/25/2012Sharing sexually suggestive pictures online is apparently where it's at if you're a young woman who wants to feel "empowered." While Swedish doctoral candidate Pernilla Bigard of Malmo University acknowledged that women who post sexy pictures did run the risk of being seen as "whores," online exhibitionism presented an opportunity "to resist objectification and stigma." According to interviews with women aged 18-25, attracting positive comments on their doe eyes or pouty lips made them "feel stronger." When the feedback wasn't so hot, the women were able to respond and engage with their critics, unlike say, when they're walking by a construction site. [Source]
