YouTube punishes users whose videos are popular with fake people
12/23/2012If you've ever wondered how big companies like Universal and Sony get such amazing view counts on their YouTube videos, here's the secret: They don't. After YouTube implemented a new method for catching individuals who fake views on the video-sharing site, they ended up banning many accounts and drastically reducing the number of views to many major media companies. The biggest loser was Universal, which lost about a billion views off of their 7 billion total, but Sony/BMG wasn't far behind with a drop of 850 million views. Luckily, the purge didn't knock PSY's "Gangnam Style" below 1 billion views, though — everyone really does love that song. [Source]
