Man with bionic leg, senator who had stroke are two badass climbers

11/5/2012

When you get a bionic leg after losing your own in a serious motorcycle accident, you're already a badass. When you use that bionic leg to climb 103 flights of stairs, you take it to a new level. Zac Vawter did just that today, making medical history in 45 minutes with his "mind-controlled" prosthetic. By essentially thinking about climbing the steps, the courageous 31-year-old amputee set off motors and chains in the smart leg, managing to reach the sky deck of Willis Tower during the SkyRise Chicago fundraiser. What's more, Vawter wasn't the only inspirational figure at the event. U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk also participated, climbing 37 flights of stairs with a brace, marking his first public appearance since he had a stroke in January. Pretty good day for hero tales. [Source]
