Soldier's remains come home for Christmas 66 years after his death

The sweetest military homecomings are at Christmas — and this bittersweet one is finally coming, 66 years overdue. Army Staff Sgt. Zoltan Dobovich, who served in World War II, was killed in 1946 when the B-17G Flying Fortress he was riding in crashed in Alps. For years, rugged terrain prevented comrades from retrieving his body from the plane crash site, and when pieces were finally recovered, they were difficult to identify. Back in Allentown, Pa., his family never got a proper burial for their lost hero. But in 1983 the Italian military discovered more remains, including Dobovich’s, who still has a niece and two nephews alive today.
